A future-proof dashboard and reporting strategy at DHL
Über die DHL Group
DHL Group is one of the world’s leading logistics providers. In the context of corporate controlling, the need arose to select a new dashboard frontend that could seamlessly integrate with the existing SAP and TM1 system landscape. To tackle this complex challenge, DHL engaged BARC for its market knowledge and first-rate consulting services.
The project in detail
The Challenge
DHL Group’s main challenge was selecting a dashboard software that would integrate smoothly with its current IT landscape, specifically with its SAP and TM1 systems. Although there already were multiple dashboarding tools in use across the organization, DHL Group’s requirements were not fully met.
To find software that best met their needs while also minimizing the effort required for implementation and user adaptation, DHL sought external consulting with expertise beyond the products already in use, coupled with a strictly vendor-neutral approach.
The aim
The project’s goal was to work with BARC to objectively evaluate the available dashboard and reporting products on the market. The aim was to identify software that would not only integrate well with DHL’s existing systems but also meet the reporting needs of various business units.
BARC’s role was to:
- Provide a comprehensive market overview and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of relevant products.
- Moderate the selection process to ensure all tools were evaluated objectively according to DHL’s specific requirements.
- Expand the range of potential software by introducing new products that had not been previously considered.
Project phase 1
In close collaboration with DHL’s team, BARC structured the selection process as follows:
- Market Overview and Software Evaluation: BARC leveraged its extensive BI & analytics expertise to compare the products currently available and their compatibility with DHL’s SAP and TM1 systems.
- Expanding the Range of Solutions: Through its collaboration with BARC, DHL was able to expand the original portfolio by adding two additional reporting tools to the shortlist, which are currently undergoing proof-of-concepts.
- Objective Evaluation: BARC ensured the evaluation process was based on an impartial and thorough analysis, taking both business and technical aspects into account.
Project phase 2
Key Takeaways:
- BARC’s objective and well-founded market overview enabled DHL to expand its scope and evaluate software that had not been previously considered.
- The structured selection process resulted in an informed decision based on a clear evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of various tools.
- DHL benefited from the collaboration by identifying a shortlist of tools that meet the needs of various business units while requiring minimal adaptation efforts from system operators and users.
The result
With BARC’s guidance, DHL Group successfully compiled a shortlist of three tools that meet the diverse requirements of its business units. Two of these tools are currently part of the ongoing PoCs. BARC’s clear market insights and objective evaluations helped DHL make well-informed decisions, ensuring minimal effort for both system operators and users.
Looking Ahead:
The collaboration with BARC has laid the groundwork for a future-proof dashboarding and reporting strategy at DHL. The insights gained from this will be applied to other areas within the company, especially as DHL continues its efforts to digitize and optimize reporting processes.
BARC’s deep market knowledge helped us expand our scope and objectively evaluate the best tools for our specific needs. We particularly valued BARC’s neutrality and professionalism throughout the selection process.
