Entropy Data
What is Entropy Data?
A platform-independent Data Product Marketplace based on the ODCS and ODPS standards, featuring capabilities for defining data contracts and building data products. The open-source component Data Contract CLI complements the solution by testing and integrating data contracts into CI/CD processes.
Self-description of Entropy Data
Trust turns data into value
Ownership, not just another catalog
Entropy Data is a data product marketplace where every data product has a clear owner. A catalog documents what exists, we manage the full lifecycle: consumers request access in self-service, owners approve or reject, and integrations provision the permissions in your data platform automatically. Ownership is the hardest part of data management, so we make it explicit, with roles, responsibilities, and notifications.
Data contracts turn promises into guarantees
Schema, quality, freshness, and terms of use are specified in a data contract and tested automatically, before a data product goes to production. Consumers get guarantees they can build on, producers get clear expectations instead of clarification loops. Contract-first and data-first both work: put existing datasets under contract, or write the contract first and let your coding agent implement the data product.
The marketplace your AI agents can use
Our MCP server lets AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot discover and query data products in natural language. Semantics, a shared ontology of business concepts and metrics linked to your contracts, gives them the vocabulary to find data by meaning instead of by column name. Purpose-based access control evaluates every agent query against the terms of use, and governance policies in natural language are checked by AI instead of manual reviews.
Open standards that we help build
Entropy Data comes from the authors of datacontract.com and datamesh-architecture.com and is built on open standards: ODCS for data contracts, ODPS for data products, and Apache Ossie for semantic models. We do not just support these standards, we help develop them, in the Bitol project under the Linux Foundation and in Apache Ossie. That gives you metadata sovereignty: your contracts, data products, and ontologies are yours, in an open format that stays readable and reusable, with or without us.
