TARGIT is a software provider founded in 1986 and headquartered in Aalborg, Denmark. The company serves nearly 8,000 customers (including OEMs), primarily in Europe and North America. In June 2025, the privately owned company was acquired by Forterro, a business software vendor focused on specialized products and services for industrial markets.
Forterro has operated for more than 40 years, with over 40 office locations and 2,500 employees worldwide. Through a series of acquisitions, it has built a portfolio of more than 20 products. Given TARGIT’s strong industry focus, the acquisition appears to be a strategic fit for both organizations.
TARGIT’s mission is to help businesses realize the full value of their data by leveraging decades of analytics expertise and deep experience in key verticals. With a strong emphasis on customer and partner relationships, TARGIT is well positioned to support companies of all sizes that require a fully integrated BI platform with rich vertical content. The vendor especially focuses on certain verticals including heavy equipment, truck & trailer and automotive dealerships, retail and C-stores, the public sector (especially in the Nordic region) and airport operators. Extensive prebuilt content with a particular focus on the automotive industry was added through the acquisition of TARGIT’s partner CalmCo, now acting as TARGIT Automotive. Besides adding verticals and content to its portfolio, the vendor maintains a partner network with an emphasis on partners with a strong vertical focus or specialization, including OEM partners.
TARGIT Decision Suite offers integrated self-service analysis, ad hoc reporting and dashboards with features for batch reporting, mobility, slideshows and data mashups. An installed client is used for data preparation, document creation and analyses. The Document Model is intended to reduce the effort required to design content and make it available across all devices and output types. Dashboard applications and visuals can be embedded through a no-footprint web client into other applications and web portals. For mobile users, a dedicated client is available as well. The suite can be deployed on premises or used as a managed option from TARGIT (TARGIT Cloud), which is hosted on Microsoft Azure.
TARGIT uses Azure cloud infrastructure and services for its core platform and adopts a flexible and agnostic approach to data platforms and the use of AI and ML services, opting to leverage the vendors and solutions best suited for each specific purpose.

Challenges
- Currently, TARGIT only offers managed cloud deployment in Azure, making it less interesting for organizations that want to use other cloud infrastructures for BI & analytics.
- Weaker support for visual data exploration and data preparation compared to many of its competitors, but strong OLAP analysis goes some way to compensating for this.
- The use of ML and AI to guide users through data preparation and analysis (augmented analytics) is a focus area and part of the roadmap but still in its early stages.

Fast and accurate consolidation of our data, easy-to-use charts and graphs of data, and the ability to download reports to XLS or PDF.

Designer users have a long learning curve. Lack of solid training and/or videos on designer functions. Designer license price is a little high.
What key advice would you give to other companies looking to introduce/use the product?
Spend the time to plan ahead before implementation to maximize value.

Ease of use as a developer and endless possibilities to design dashboards. I also have experience using Power BI, and if I compare the two, then TARGIT Decision Suite is heaven compared to Power BI.

There's not really anything that I do not like.

Just get started with it and experience yourself how it works.

TARGIT Decision Suite works like a charm, very easy to use for developers but also for users. It feels very intuitive, and the product development over the past few years has been great.

Needs to be slicker with other data integrations and expand to support Azure/Fabric-type technologies. Needs to cater to the growing need for AI, ML, and predictive analytics.

What do you like best?
Scheduled job delivery of PDFs to users' inboxes. Many of our report consumers prefer to work this way and have data delivered to them rather than go find it. I should also mention the TARGIT community and online courses have been very helpful.
What do you like least/what could be improved?
Some of the calculation formulas can be complicated, and the syntax presents a steep learning curve for users who came up on Microsoft Excel.
What key advice would you give to other companies looking to introduce/use the product?
The installation and administration are top notch.
How would you sum up your experience?
Very good product, with a steep learning curve. Sometimes that can be a bad thing, but to me it is an indication that we haven't tapped into TARGIT's full potential.

TARGIT Decision Suite provides excellent visualizations, a clean and user-friendly interface, and strong consultancy support.
What do you like least/what could be improved?
The lack of publicly available resources, such as tutorials, forums, and third-party documentation, makes it difficult to find quick solutions. Unlike more widely used BI tools, where solutions can be found easily online, I often have to rely on support to resolve issues.
What key advice would you give to other companies looking to introduce/use the product?
Invest in internal training to build expertise within the team.

The aspect I find most challenging about Targit is its limited online documentation and community support. Unlike more widely-used tools like Power BI, it can be difficult to find comprehensive information or troubleshooting resources for specific functionalities when I have questions or need assistance.

I would advice any company to implement Targit, and in doing it so, to invest in comprehensive training, foster internal expertise, establish a knowledge sharing platform, partner with the vendor, share success stories and collaborate with industry peers.
