Provider and product description

TARGIT is a privately-owned software provider founded in 1986 with its headquarters in Aalborg, Denmark. The company has close to 8,000 customers (including OEM) primarily located in Europe and North America.

TARGIT aims to help businesses realize the full value of data by leveraging decades of analytics expertise and experience in key verticals. The vendor is strongly focused on customer and partner relationships and is well positioned for companies of all sizes requiring an all-integrated BI platform with vertical content.

With its TARGIT Decision Suite BI & analytics platform, the objective is to deliver detailed insights and make relevant data accessible to every employee by supporting the unique goals and processes that power its customers’ daily operations.

Delivering industry knowledge and value drivers through its BI & analytics platform remains a top priority for TARGIT. The vendor especially focuses on certain verticals including heavy equipment, truck & trailer and automotive dealerships, retail and C-stores, the public sector (especially in the Nordic region) and airport operators. Extensive prebuilt content with a particular focus on the automotive industry was added through the acquisition of TARGIT’s partner CalmCo, now acting as TARGIT Automotive. Besides adding verticals and content to its portfolio, the vendor maintains a partner network with an emphasis on partners with a strong vertical focus or specialization, including OEM partners.

TARGIT Decision Suite offers integrated self-service analysis, ad hoc reporting and dashboards with features for batch reporting, mobility, slideshows and data mashups. An installed client is used for data preparation, document creation and analyses. The Document Model is intended to reduce the effort required to design content and make it available across all devices and output types. Dashboard applications and visuals can be embedded through a no-footprint web client into other applications and web portals. For mobile users, a dedicated client is available as well. The suite can be deployed on premises or used as a managed option from TARGIT (TARGIT Cloud), which is hosted on Microsoft Azure.

TARGIT uses Azure cloud infrastructure and services for its core platform and adopts a flexible and agnostic approach to data platforms and the use of AI and ML services, opting to leverage the vendors and solutions best suited for each specific purpose.

Strengths
  • Accelerators, predefined content and industry knowledge for different verticals and topics
  • Business-user-oriented BI platform for reporting, analysis and dashboards available on premises or in the cloud, and supporting additional technologies such as OLAP and Tabular
  • One document type for different output formats to facilitate content development
  • Well defined ad hoc query and reporting functionality compared to some competitors
  • Enterprise functionality for data governance, reporting, distribution, deployment and logging
Challenges
  • Currently, TARGIT only offers managed cloud deployment in Azure, making it less interesting for organizations that want to use other cloud infrastructures for BI & analytics
  • Weaker support for visual data exploration and data preparation compared to many of its competitors, but strong OLAP analysis goes some way to compensating for this
  • The use of ML and AI to guide users through data preparation and analysis (augmented analytics) is a focus area and part of the roadmap but still in its early stages

Flexibility. Able to merge/re-calibrate data from multiple sources.

More report scheduling options. Need to be able to burst reports. Need more formatting flexibility. Need ability for consumesr to input data to interact with dashboards.

Take the time to learn about everything you can do in Targit.

The suite is very robust and flexible. Able to bring in data from almost any source. Able to create very appealing dashboard reports.

Visual tools and Targit customer service/support, consultancy team.

What do you like least/what could be improved?

The aspect I find most challenging about Targit is its limited online documentation and community support. Unlike more widely-used tools like Power BI, it can be difficult to find comprehensive information or troubleshooting resources for specific functionalities when I have questions or need assistance.

What key advice would you give to other companies looking to introduce/use the product?

I would advice any company to implement Targit, and in doing it so, to invest in comprehensive training, foster internal expertise, establish a knowledge sharing platform, partner with the vendor, share success stories and collaborate with industry peers.

How would you sum up your experience?

Targit is an excellent BI solution that effectively meets our analytics needs and support decision-making within the organization. I'm highly satisfied with its performance and capabilities.

Schneller Einstieg in die Nutzung der Software. Die Lernkurve zu Beginn ist nicht sehr hoch.

What do you like least/what could be improved?

Durch den simpleren Aufbau sind die Customizingmöglichkeiten im Vergleich zu z.B. Power BI beschränkt. Darüber hinaus gibt es bis auf den Targit Data Service keine zufriedenstellende Möglichkeit, direkt auf SQL-Datenbanken ad hoc zugreifen zu können. Eine Funktion wie Direct Query in PowerBI fehlt.

What key advice would you give to other companies looking to introduce/use the product?

Prüfen, ob die teils eingeschränkten Customizingmöglichkeiten ausreichen.

How would you sum up your experience?

Ein mächtiges Werkzeug von einem noch für die Kunden erreichbaren Hersteller.
