Dies stellt unserer Meinung nach jedoch ein Risiko dar, da technische Änderungen am Technologie-Stack durch Microsoft die Funktionen von Vena unwirksam machen oder beeinträchtigen könnten.
- Vena bietet eigene Optionen zur Datenintegration und offene APIs, während Microsoft Fabric Data Factory ebenfalls für anspruchsvolle Integrationen und die Datenverarbeitung genutzt werden kann. Vorkonfigurierte Konnektoren zu ausgewählten Quellsystemen stehen unter Nutzung von Microsoft Fabric zur Verfügung. Das Feedback aus The Planning Survey 26 zeigt jedoch, dass weder die vordefinierte Datenkonnektivität noch die Datenintegrationsfunktionen von Vena die Kunden vollständig zufriedenstellen.
- Vena fehlt die Marktpräsenz und globale Sichtbarkeit seiner Hauptwettbewerber. Der Großteil des Geschäfts des Unternehmens entfällt nach wie vor auf Nordamerika und Großbritannien. What I like most about Vena is the time it saves once reporting and planning structures are built. Reports and templates are designed once and then reused and refreshed automatically, rather than constantly rebuilt or maintained in disconnected spreadsheets. Having a centralized data model and standardized templates has significantly reduced manual rework, version-control issues, and ongoing maintenance effort. This allows the team to spend far less time rebuilding reports and far more time analyzing results and supporting the business.

While Vena is very flexible, building and maintaining more complex models and templates still requires a high level of platform expertise. Even with a sandbox environment available for testing, development and troubleshooting can be resource-intensive and create key-person dependency. Some configuration and calculation logic is not always intuitive, and changes can take time to design, test, and validate before moving to production. Improvements around ease of maintenance, clearer tooling for complex logic, and stronger version control and documentation would make the platform easier to scale and support over time.

Invest time upfront in designing a strong data model and standardized templates before expanding functionality. Early decisions around dimensions, governance, and reporting structure have a long-term impact on scalability and ease of use, so it’s important to think beyond immediate requirements and design for future use. In practice, this often means building in more dimensionality than you think you need to avoid being constrained later. Focus just as much on user adoption, onboarding, and buy-in as on the technical build. Clear ownership, training, and early engagement with users are critical to driving consistent usage and realizing value from the system. Ensure you have dedicated internal ownership with both finance and systems expertise. Vena is powerful, but it is not a tool that can be implemented casually or part-time. Treat it as a true transformation project with a committed project team responsible for its long-term success.

My overall opinion of Vena is extremely positive. It has become a core platform for how we plan, forecast, and report, and it has fundamentally changed the way our finance team operates. The combination of Excel familiarity with a centralized, governed data model makes it both powerful and practical. Once implemented, the efficiency gains are significant. Reporting and planning structures are built once and then reused, which dramatically reduces ongoing maintenance and manual rework. Vena has enabled better discipline, consistency, and confidence in our financial processes. At this point, Vena is not just a tool we use; it’s a system I would actively look for in future roles. The value it provides in terms of scalability, control, and long-term efficiency makes it a critical part of our finance ecosystem.

Excel front‑end is familiar to users and allows great flexibility in the design of reports and input templates. Combining the latest Excel functionality (which is improving all the time as Microsoft invests in Excel) with the robustness and security of saving data in a database is incredibly powerful. Ability to easily perform calculations and data transformations directly on the database. Ease of adding new data sources. Ability to automate almost everything.

For any company interested in implementing Vena Solutions I will say that it is strictly necessary a long design period before doing any implementation, probably even including in the project some dedicated FTE in order to achieve all the requirements. The main issues always come from a poor initial design and those decisions in the beginning of the project will affect severely the whole development.

In general, me personally and the team members love Vena, since it was such a huge improvement from the Excel-formula based models. It was not as hard to implement for our company's complexity and we didn't give up on our Excel designs. Also, it allowed us to have a more decentralized system where everything is condensed under an easy and controllable workflow. However, the main downsides are the low-speed performance for some operations that, in any other tool would be pretty fast to execute and debug, and also the lack of integration with other tools or systems directly.

Vena's ETL/Data Model capability is not very intuitive coming from a SQL/PowerBI background. What-if scenarios such as translating all values at a certain rate require complex scripts to create values in a database rather than other solutions such as PowerBI being able to calculate it instantly in the data model. Management reporting side (such as integration to PowerPoint) remains weak.
