Vena is a handy tool for budgeting and forecasting. The additional Vena add in tool lets you use Excel in a better way as there are more options available with the add in tool installed.

The best part about Vena Solutions is the flexibility. The tools it gives you allow the tool to be adapted to any kind of company, no matter how complex the industry. Also, you don't get rid of Excel, since the front-end users will still use Excel for their inputs and reports, which implies a non-drastic change when implementing the tool.

Vena Solutions is a hard-to-learn software. Despite the tools being easy to understand, the difficulty curve is high since it gives you a high amount of possibilities but you need to figure out how to adapt them to the business and company requirements without giving up comfort and maintainability.

For any company interested in implementing Vena Solutions I will say that it is strictly necessary a long design period before doing any implementation, probably even including in the project some dedicated FTE in order to achieve all the requirements. The main issues always come from a poor initial design and those decisions in the beginning of the project will affect severely the whole development.

In general, me personally and the team members love Vena, since it was such a huge improvement from the Excel-formula based models. It was not as hard to implement for our company's complexity and we didn't give up on our Excel designs. Also, it allowed us to have a more decentralized system where everything is condensed under an easy and controllable workflow. However, the main downsides are the low-speed performance for some operations that, in any other tool would be pretty fast to execute and debug, and also the lack of integration with other tools or systems directly.

Nee to open a separate Excel file to enter data. Not easy to link with data warehouse, not that many APIs to push data from Vena to other tools.

Easy to use for the end user and users feel empowered by seeing historical actuals and previous forecasts and drilling down into their data.

Vena's ETL/Data Model capability is not very intuitive coming from a SQL/PowerBI background. What-if scenarios such as translating all values at a certain rate require complex scripts to create values in a database rather than other solutions such as PowerBI being able to calculate it instantly in the data model. Management reporting side (such as integration to PowerPoint) remains weak.

Implementation would be difficult to do without some external support (either via Vena or an implementation partner). End-user adoption is simple and limited change-management to adopt.

Very happy with the product. Very easy to use/manage data models and workflows. As long as you understand how to map reports and templates, it's very easy to use - if you can do it in Excel, you can do it in Vena. Good implementation experience and good post implementation relationship

Quality of support consultants' ability varies significantly from person to person. There are some key functionalities such as embedded BI tool and ad-hoc reporting tool with limited functionalities. They don't communicate the interface change to users effectively.
